Planning your Koh Phangan trip
Getting here
Fly to Samui (USM), then take a 20 to 50 minute boat to Thong Sala. From Surat Thani, a bus and ferry takes about 4 hours. Ferries, piers and fares.
When to go
January to April is the driest and calmest time. October to December is the wettest, and Ang Thong Marine Park closes every year from 1 November to 15 December. Weather by month.
About the island
Koh Phangan is a 125 km² island in Surat Thani province, in the Gulf of Thailand, between Samui and Koh Tao. Much of its interior is protected national park.
Responsible travel
We do not sell animal shows or elephant rides; to meet elephants, visit the Phangan Elephant Sanctuary. Our tours keep groups small, and we ask guests to leave no rubbish on the islands.

Getting around
Scooters are the easiest way around, but the hill roads are steep, so ride only if you are confident and always wear a helmet. Taxis and songthaews link Thong Sala, Haad Rin and the west coast, and longtail boats reach beaches without roads. Getting around guide.
How long to stay
Three days covers the best beaches and one boat trip. With five to seven days you can add Ang Thong, Koh Tao and a slow day at a waterfall or viewpoint. 3, 5 and 7-day itineraries.

Where is Koh Phangan and how big is it?

Is Koh Phangan only about the Full Moon Party?

How do I get around the island?
Songthaew pick-up taxis are the most common option, and private taxis suit families and late nights. Scooters are risky for beginners. Our day tours include hotel transfers, so you can skip the scooter for the boat trips.
Where should I stay on Koh Phangan?
Thong Sala for convenience, Haad Rin for the Full Moon, Srithanu for yoga, Haad Yao for families and sunsets, and Thong Nai Pan for resorts. Couples and families have their own guides.
Is Koh Phangan safe for tourists?
Generally yes. Scooter accidents are the main risk, so wear a helmet and ride only if you are experienced. Call 1669 for an ambulance or 1155 for the Tourist Police. Find hospitals and clinics.
Do I need a visa and how much cash should I bring?
Recent reports say Thailand cut visa-free stays to 30 days from 15 September 2026, so check your own government's advice. Carry baht for markets, songthaews and park fees, as cards are rarely accepted on the island.
How many days do I need on Koh Phangan?
Five to seven days covers two boat trips, a waterfall hike, beach days and a market night. Add a boat day to your plan to see the marine park.
Can I visit Ang Thong and Koh Tao from Koh Phangan?
Yes. Both are classic day trips from Thong Sala Pier. Our Ang Thong day tour and Koh Tao snorkelling trip each cost 2,200 THB adult and 1,600 THB child, with hotel transfers included.
What is your cancellation policy?
Day tours: full refund for cancellations 48 hours or more before departure, 50 per cent from 24 to 48 hours, no refund under 24 hours. Overnight camping: full refund 48 hours or more ahead.
